Frequently Asked Questions

What model of therapy do you practice?

I practice Internal Family Systems with all my clients. See the Resource section below to learn more about this model, but please know familiarity with the model is not necessary to engage in it. That's what I'm here for!

What services do you offer

I currently only offer individual therapy to adults and sometimes older teens. I also offer IFS consultation. Most work is conducted via telehealth, although I do work from an office on Tuesdays.

Is there anything you are uncomfortable treating?

I am comfortable working with anyone who wants to work with me. I have experience working with most concerns and have a varied skill set that includes working with complex trauma, dissociation, personality disorders, cravings, compulsions, obsessions, and the entire spectrum of emotions. All parts are welcome!

What does each session cost?

Sessions are 50 minutes and cost $195. Sliding scale options are available based on need, but at the moment, my ability to slide is limited. Call or email to inquire.

Are you in-network with any insurance?

The only insurance that I can bill directly is Tricare. These are for 55 minute sessions. If you have Select, you will owe a copay. If you are the primary insured, you need a referral from your provider before we can begin. If you are a dependent, I will do a brief intake with you and submit for prior approval before we can start sessions.

What about out-of-network insurance?

If you have a PPO (vs an HMO), it's possible your insurance offers OON benefits. You will need to call and confirm this. If they do, you'll want to ask the following:

- What percentage of the therapy fee will you reimburse?

- Do I have to meet a deductible?

After getting the answers to these questions, if you'd like to submit for reimbursement through your PPO, let me know and I can provide you with a Super Bill. You could also look into Thrizer.com, and I'd be happy to bill you through that platform if you'd like to utilize their reimbursement services.

How long does therapy take?

This question depends on so many factors, so there isn't a single answer. Given that the IFS model is helping to develop relationships between parts of you, it's important to take the time needed to do so. Some parts are wary, distrusting, hurt, and angry. Those parts will take time to develop relationships with. The long and short of it is, it takes as long as it takes. My 2 cents: it's best to plan on a minimum of 6 months, but most of the clients I work with are engaged in therapy as a regular self-care practice. Just as we never expect an end date to maintaining our physical or spiritual health, I invite you to consider that therapy could be a helpful mental health practice to engage in regularly. Sometimes this practice is scheduled at regular intervals, or perhaps you want someone to connect with on an as-needed basis. You don't have to make any commitment you don't want to, and I'd be honored to partner with you over whatever timeframe feels good to your system.

What do the levels of training in IFS signify? What about certification?

Every IFS therapist must complete Level 1 training, which covers the model in its entirety. Level 2 trainings focus more specifically on deepening understanding of an element of the model, or use of the model with a specific population (e.g. eating disorders, addiction, couples, etc.), and Level 3 is an intensive where practitioners hone their skills through lots of practice with one another. Level 3 can only be accessed once Level 2 has been completed. I am a Level 2 trained IFS therapist. My bias is the no amount of training qualifies someone as a "good" IFS therapist. Rather, their ability to navigate Self leadership is what translates into "good" therapy. A Certified IFS therapist has gone through an application process that requires they have a met the required hours of utilizing the model in sessions, training hours in addition to level 1, and time spent in individual and/or group consultation. They have also taken a video of an IFS session they led. I met all requirements for certification in 2022, save the video recording, but have parts that really dislike the feeling of "jumping through hoops" for the sake of earning a title. A trailhead for me, I suppose!
